* "Defend Black Lives Matter Protesters" (2016-06-03, and; via []:
Black Lives Matter Los Angeles (BLM-LA) organizers continue to face charges brought against them for peaceful actions taken in the names of Ezell Ford and Charlie Africa, Redel Jones and Wakeisha Wilson. The chapter has been facing political persecution for strategic peaceful demonstrations since November 2014 and continuing to the present day, with repeated arrests at the LA Police Commission and trials proceeding in various courthouses in L.A. and nearby cities.
The targeted prosecution of peaceful protestors is a clear indication of the priorities of the City of Los Angeles. Instead of taking steps to address violence against the people of Los Angeles, more violence is being inflicted upon peaceful protestors in the form of lost time, wages, and agency. Instead of investing in Black futures, resources are used to criminalize activists. Instead of honoring civil disobedience, a critical tool for a fair democracy, elected officials invoke the names of elders like Rosa Parks and in the same moment they dehumanize Black people. In response, BLM-LA and allied groups such as LA CAN and Stop LAPD Spying have issued a call for a “Freedom Budget,” taking funding from LAPD for housing, education, jobs and other community needs. The Youth Justice Coalition, as Change-Links went to press called for a protest and press conference at the LAPC to fund youth justice programs instead of police repression.
Tying up activists and organizers in court and burying them in paperwork is an age-old strategy employed by the government — one whose implications have a broad reach. The Black Panther Party was targeted by the FBI for their work protecting people from the police and providing resources to the community. The FBI, led by J. Edgar Hoover, used surveillance, infiltration, and harassment to delegitimize and discredit the party. More recently, Black Lives Matter activists in Minneapolis were surveilled by the FBI during and leading up to the shutdown of the Mall of America. LA had more mass arrests for street protests than any other city, and felony charges were threatened against protesters for blocking traffic.
What can be said about a government that spends its resources, time, personnel, and institutional power to harass, prosecute, and effectively criminalize those who speak out against police violence, but cannot be bothered to arrest cops who kill Black people? The decisions that are made about which lives can and cannot be disrupted directly correlate to whose lives are valued and whose are perceived to be disposable. When you consider that many of the charges that BLM-LA protesters are facing impact their right to freedom of speech, the injustice of these proceedings become increasingly clear.
LA is a city known for its violence against Black people; this year, like last year, it leads the country in the number of killings. These trials not only reflect that violence, but the racist priorities of government officials and the Mayor. In many other cities across the country, governments have dropped charges and dismissed cases. However, in LA city and county, there is a culture and a will to continue to suppress Black voices that demand police accountability and the dismantling of white supremacy. It’s a repression of the people when the political persecution of activists is prioritized over the prosecution of police who kill with impunity. Yet many of these cases end with acquittals, hung juries and dismissal; in other cases, charges are not filed immediately, but hang over defendants as kind of back-door probation for a year.
Activists who put their bodies on the line are not only in danger during actions, but also afterward. The cost of trials and convictions on the defendants is not only physical; there are emotional, psychological, and monetary damages as well. We demand that the city and county prosecutors of LA drop the charges against Black Lives Matter organizers and use tax dollars to prosecute killer cops and corrupt city officials. Jasmine Abdullah, the founder of Black Lives Matter Pasadena, a organizer fighting sanctioned police state violence has become a repeated target of the police and prosecutors. The Pasadena police have charged Jasmine with 6 misdemeanor charges of terrorist threats, criminal threats, assault, failure to comply with police officer, trespassing and failure to turn down amplified sound. She says, “Out of all the folks who attended i was the only who received charges. Shortly after, my job, Equality California, suspended me without pay pending criminal investigation. I moved from Pasadena my home due to police threats. I have also been charged with felony lynching from a peace walk BLM Pasadena organized in northwest Pasadena on August 28, 2015.” As C-L goes to press, she was convicted of attempted felony lynching in Pasadena by the Pasadena office of the L.A. County district attorney, and faces a possible 4-year sentence on Tuesday June 7 at the Pasadena courthouse — people are mobilizing for court support and urge leniency. “Its whole surface holds an electrical charge. So, if someone charges at me, I can electrocute him,” an officer at the booth told a reporter from [], adding that the shield might also help to deter possible offenders and discourage them from dangerous behavior.
Different types of ‘Taser shields,’ also known as ‘stun shields,’ are already in use in some US police and sheriffs’ departments, as well as in correctional facilities.
In 2015, the Russian police bought a pack of 100 electrified shields capable of stunning a person for 10-20 minutes for studies and testing. The equipment is designed by a Russian company that also makes regular Tasers. The company insists [] that the shields will be effective against violent crowds, such as rioters and football hooligans.
The type of Taser shields acquired by the Russian police and the National Guard are intended for SWAT-style raids, not for crowd control during rallies, the company’s spokesperson clarified.

We must take full responsibility for the current discipline that is being held inside these prisons since the recent release of the so-called ‘worst of the worst’ prisoners out of solitary confinement.
It’s been an uphill battle, as many of us know, to uphold the discipline of the Agreement to End Hostilities, and there have been countless efforts made to maintain ‘peace’ on these prison yards amongst the races.
We cannot allow no one, other than prisoners, to stake a claim in such discipline that is so prevalent throughout the CDCr, that we are now seeing materialize amongst the races.
It’s been a beautiful ride thus far to see the social development occurring amongst races around the Agreement to End Hostilities. We, here at Calipatria state prison, have come to see the value in the Agreement of End Hostilities, where our Families, friends and associates are enjoying their incarcerated love ones!!! Proving there is Love in Peace!!!
We are seeing prisoners under new laws and policies that many prison activist organizations have vigorously campaigned to put on the books, by way of legislation to our so-called ‘policy makers’ that are literally giving prisoners the opportunity to go home.
We can only hope that our efforts will take on an effect that would lead to our communities, embracing this new found Peace.
Whereas, each and every one of us who have been working very hard to establish prisoners under a new discipline should be proud of the fact that a lot of these young people will not ‘suffer’ the fate that many of us have suffered, due to the senseless racial violence that I/we believe was manipulated by our keepers, that led to many of us being murdered, maimed, and placed in solitary confinement units indefinitely.
We all should admire and respect the strength that’s being demonstrated throughout CDCr by human beings who are considered the so-called worst of the worst.

* "American company targets Chinese market with AI-based sleep tracking device" (2018-05-22, [] [begin excerpt]: The Lifetide Biofeedback has received "very positive response" from associations and enterprises in the sleep industry in and outside of China since the smart home sleep management device made its international debut at the 2018 China International Sleeping Technology Expo in Beijing in March, said Xiao Gang, president of the Lifetide Heath System LLC, registered in the southeastern U.S. state, in an interview with Xinhua.
"With it, you no longer have to spend a night at a sleep lab hooked up to devices such as electroencephalography (EEG) machines. You can easily and conveniently track your entire night's sleep at home," said Xiao, "The device will benefit millions of Chinese who have sleep problems. Sleep pattern can reveal a lot about various health problems."
"The device is very useful for physicians to monitor their patients sleep data at real time during the treatment phase and it is also very significant in facilitating our deeper understanding of sleep which is essential to maintain our physical health," said Xiao, a graduate of Biology Medical Science Engineering of Zhejiang University, who moved to the United States in 2001.
"Armed with the latest biomedical engineering, Internet, cloud technology and artificial intelligence algorithms, the wearable device is capable of screening a user's sleep pattern and sleep quality in a natural sleep environment. As a result, the evaluation of sleep based on body signals is more reliable than that done at a sleep lab," Xiao said.
The Lifetide Biofeedback that weighs only 19 grams can monitor user's heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, perfusion index, toss and turn as well as snoring, apnea and sleep talking during sleep.
With user's consent, the device transmits sleep data 20 times per second for eight hours uninterrupted to designated secure cloud database for a peers-reviewed report on his/her sleep patterns, sleep quality and potential health problems. [end excerpt]

The US Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear an appeal by the villagers of a lower court ruling that the International Finance Corp (IFC) was immune from such lawsuits under federal law.
The court must now consider for the first time whether international organizations are immune from such suits under federal law, according to the advocacy group EarthRights International (ERI), which is representing the plaintiffs.
"This is a big victory for us," said Bharat Patel, a plaintiff and general secretary of the fishermen's group Machimar Adhikar Sangharsh Sangathan.
"We fought for so many years to be heard. This decision gives us hope," he told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.
The case revolves around the IFC's decision in 2008 to provide 450 million US dollars in loans for a coal-fired plant operated by a Tata Power unit near Mundra, in Gujarat state.
Loans from the IFC include provisions requiring that certain environmental standards will be met.
But the 4,000MW plant – billed as key to providing cheap energy and creating jobs – has had a "devastating and irreversible impact" on the coastal ecosystem, according to the submission by villagers who live near the plant.
Coal ash damages crops, water for drinking and irrigation have been contaminated, while discharges from the plant's cooling system have reduced fish stocks, they said.
Lead plaintiff Budha Ismail Jam and others sued in federal court in Washington in 2015, saying the IFC had failed to meet its obligations.
Representatives for Tata Power and the World Bank in India did not respond to e-mails seeking comment.
A district court in 2016 and the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 2017 ruled that the lawsuit was barred because the IFC is immune from such litigation under a 1945 law.
The question before the Supreme Court now is whether there are limits to immunity for entities like the IFC under the 1945 International Organizations Immunity Act.
That law gives international organizations "the same immunity" from suit "as is enjoyed by foreign governments."
However, governments "are not entitled to immunity from suits arising out of their commercial activities" under the 1976 Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, according to ERI.
"Since a foreign government would not be immune from this suit, the IFC, which is made up of foreign states, should not be immune either," it said.
The court will hear arguments and decide the case in its next term, which begins in October.

* "Project for the New American Century still rolling" (2016-06-03, by Ron Spriestersbach, via []

In The Project for the New American Century (PNAC), directed by William Kristol, Robert Kagan, Devon Gaffney Cross, Bruce P. Jackson, John R. Bolton, and Gary Schmitt, the above argued for the United States as being a superpower which is exceptional and which should assert itself as hegemonic over all the nations on earth ( ).
Following the course outlined by the Project, the United States and the Defense Department are carrying on perpetual wars. Ashton Carter, the Secretary of Defense, has announced an enemies list of Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and ISIS/Daesh, in that order. So, why don’t they call it the War Department? The US is not even warring the Defense Secretary’s top four enemies, except Russia to a certain extent (with sanctions, which are a belligerent act of war by economic means enforced by military power), while Russia keeps trying to be on the side of the US in it’s so-called “War on Terror.”
The US State Department seems to move between abetting the Defense Department, and being in mild opposition to it. Why, when the world is fighting global warming, and California is drying up, does the US carry on with all its wars, burning all that oil for moving troops, planes, tanks and ships?
The goal of the Defense Department is to break up every enemy into little ineffective pieces, as it did in the former Yugoslavia, and is doing in Syria, and Libya. The goal is to create chaos, not friendship, chaos not love. Why doesn’t the US have a Peace Department, and why don’t the two, “Defense” (read, War) and Peace, have yearly debates like the presidential debates, and why isn’t there peace at least half of the time?
Why don’t today’s college students have a free education like I did at UCLA during the Korean War?
The Project for the New American Century was written by neo-cons. Why isn’t there a Project for Peace on Earth Forever? Why is everything in the corporate media and the halls of government now on the far right, with everything we say and write recorded? What happened to the Magna Carta? US ships are provocatively stationed off the shores of Russia and China while the US protests the buzzing of those ships. Isn’t that rather one-sided?
Why do we hear how Russia broke the law by invading Crimea when the whole thing started with a CIA coup in the Ukraine organized by a State Department director named Victoria Nuland who is the wife of one of the key neo-cons, Robert Kagan who worked on the Project for the New American Century (PNAC)?
Why don’t we welcome back Edward Snowden, Julian Assange, and Chelsea Manning, and treat them and all the other heroes who exposed surveillance, war crimes and abuse of power to a ticker-tape parade in New York City to the music of Orson Welles, Leonard Bernstein, Mark Blitzstein, and Earl Robinson, and the poetry of Bertolt Brecht?

* "Santos Announces That Colombia Will Join NATO; For the first time in history, a Latin American country will be part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization" (2018-05-26, [] [begin excerpt]:
Colombia will be part, starting next week, of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as the first Latin American "global partner", announced on Friday the president of that nation, Juan Manuel Santos.
"We will formalize in Brussels next week -and this is very important- the entry of Colombia into NATO in the category of global partner, we will be the only country in Latin America with this privilege," the president said in a televised address from the presidential Narino Palace.
Santos, who will leave office this year, will meet next May 31 in Brussels with NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, to finalize the accreditation of Colombia as part of the military alliance.
On December 2016 the Colombian Executive had informed that NATO had accepted the request to establish an agreement and thus agree to a "greater" military cooperation with that organization, following the Peace Agreement signed in Havana.
At that time, the neighboring government of Venezuela rejected the announcement as an "attempt to introduce external factors with nuclear capacity" in the region. [end excerpt]

* "U.S. Pacific Command's duty to remain unchanged despite possible name change: Pentagon" (2018-05-21, [] [begin excerpt]: The U.S. Department of Defense said Monday a possible name change for the U.S. Pacific Command to Indo-Pacific Command would not change the command's responsibilities.
The possible name change is to "better encapsulate the responsibilities the command currently has," Pentagon spokesman Robert Manning told a routine briefing, adding the command would have "the same Area of Responsibility." [...]
The U.S. Pacific Command currently covers most of the Pacific Ocean and half of the Indian Ocean. A defense bill rolled out by the U.S. Congress earlier this month pledged funding for the Pentagon's efforts "to plan for and provide the necessary forces and military infrastructure, and logistics capabilities, in the region through the Indo-Pacific Stability Initiative."
The bill, which is yet to be ratified, also directs the Pentagon to change the Pacific Command to Indo-Pacific Command beginning 2020.
Manning said so far there's no announcement on the name change but said the "significance of any name change is to better characterize the responsibility."
The Trump administration has been keen to push forward an Indo-Pacific strategy since 2017, a shift from the previous Asian-Pacific terminology to incorporate regions around the Indian Ocean, raising hopes that it would find more allies to help solidify the U.S. presence in Asia.
But the strategy has come under heavy criticism by U.S. scholars, who say the hawkish strategy was based on misreading the Asian region and could turn out counterproductive.
The Indo-Pacific strategy risks undermining the regional order it seeks to uphold, said Michael Swaine, senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
"It reflects the Trump administration's overall destructive tendency to view the world not as a global community but merely as a transactional arena where nations compete for egocentric advantage," he said. [end excerpt]

The June-August 2018 exercises would have been the third consecutive time The People’s Liberation Army Navy would have attended the exercises.
"The United States is committed to a free and open Indo-Pacific. China's continued militarization of disputed features in the South China Sea only serve to raise tensions and destabilize the region,” U.S. Department of Defense Spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Logan said in a press release.

‍A Chinese hospital denied the allegations of withholding a Liberian woman’s newborns, after a New York Time’s report said the hospital asked the new mother to pay to see her twins.
Juliana Brandy Logbo gave birth at the Huadu District People's Hospital of Guangzhou on May 6. The 28-year-old mother told the New York Times that the hospital in south China’s Guangdong Province asked her to pay 630 US dollars for hospitalization fees if she wanted to see her girls. Three days later, she said, the amount rose to nearly 800 US dollars.
In the end, Logbo paid 3,500 US dollars collected from donations. Then she and her baby girls were permitted to leave.
The hospital on Thursday denied the accusations of the news report published on Tuesday, saying Logbo and her daughters had contact when the babies were born.
They also said that Logbo and her family had to visit the babies at the Newborn Intensive Care Unit because the babies were premature and could not be taken outside. Fearing for infections, denying parents access to premature babies is a policy widely shared by many hospitals in the country.
The hospital also stated the charges, which included the hospitalization fee for Logbo and her babies, were made under Chinese regulations. According to the hospital, Logbo gave birth through an emergency cesarean section without paying any fee or handling admission procedures first, since no family members of hers were at the scene.
China launched a campaign in 2013, calling for patients who need urgent care to be given it first, regardless of whether they can pay or not. The campaign has been instigated in more than 20 administrative regions, including Guangdong Province, Beijing and Shanghai.
In an appreciation letter, which was reportedly written by Logbo before she was discharged from the hospital, the Liberian mother said the doctors and nurses “really made me feel at home”.
She named her twins Grace Annabelle and Gracious Anna, “because I’m grateful to God for everything.”

The diplomat stressed that the positive cooperation between the EU and Belarus over the past few years has brought far more positive results than the previous two decades of sanctions.
As a step towards removing the remaining restrictive measures, he noted the exclusion of sports shooting weapons from the arms embargo.
The Minister also welcomed the EU's intention to expand relations with Belarus and put them on a structured basis.

* "Ukraine on the road to US hegemony" (2015-04-02, by Ron Spriestersbach, via [] [begin excerpt]: The war in Ukraine is not a reaction to Russian aggression. It is the result of a US-orchestrated coup in February 2014 which threatened the security of Russia. The coup was organized by Victoria Nuland of the State Dept., the wife of Robert D. Kagan, a co-founder of the Project for a New American Century. In a major slip, she was heard saying on a phone call to the US ambassador to Ukraine, that the CIA had spent 5 billion dollars in its preparation. They discussed who they wanted for Prime Minister, and agreed that their man was ìYats.î Two weeks later, the coup occurred and Yatseniuk became Prime Minister.
The coup overthrew the elected president who had decided to go with Russia instead of with the European Union. After the coup, the Crimea, the location of the Russian Black Sea warm water naval port, which had been transferred to the Ukraine from Russia when both were part of the USSR, voted 75+% by the overwhelmingly Russian-speaking citizens to rejoin Russia. Also, in the south-east of Ukraine proper, the Russian-speaking population, facing discrimination and intimidation, sought to separate from the Ukraine, and a civil war has ensued, at a cost of at least 6,000 deaths, more than 1 million refugees, and terrible damage to the infrastructure. To this date, this situation has not been resolved.
The US and NATO have imposed sanctions on Russia, and threatened military action on their own and weapons supply to the Ukraine, or the incorporation of Ukraine into NATO. Putin has hinted that Russia may use nuclear weapons if this encroachment is excessive as in the Ukraine coup. Many writers, including Gorbachev, have warned that there is now a crisis equivalent to the Cuban missile crisis. The Germans and others in Europe have sought to back off the US-escalated military pressure on Russia, but Gen. Phillip Breedlove, the NATO Commander, continues to make bellicose statements denouncing supposed Russian aggressiveness. [end excerpt]

Maduro's main rival in the election -boycotted by most of the Venezuelan opposition - said there were serious discrepancies.
His chief complaint involved these red tents, which were set up outside almost all polling stations. They were staffed by socialist party representatives taking note of voters' ID card numbers. Critics of the government say this is tantamount to buying votes, as the same ID cards are required to receive subsidized food.
Complaints like that prompted the US government to declare the election "fake". President Trump on Monday signed an executive order, preventing the US entities from buying or selling any debt issued by Venezuela or its national oil company, PDVSA - turning the screws on the already troubled economy here.

Q: How is the putschist sector reacting?
A: The sector that reached power through the coup is internally divided. That helps us, because in previous coups, like 1964, and during the 1994 government of Fernando Cardoso, the bourgeoisie was united, under a single command, a single project for the country and a strong rearguard in US capital. Now, they don’t have a project for the country, they lost their US rearguard (they were allied with Clinton) and want to salvage only their own particular interest. José de Souza Martins, PSDB sociologist, said: “reforms in retirement and labor policies are measures that increase exploitation of workers, but they also go against the capitalist project for the country.”
The putschists don’t have a unified command. They’re divided into the sector with economic power (including Finance Minister Meirelles, and the company that denounced Temer, JBS), the group of PMDB lumpens (Romero Jupé, Eliseu Padilha, Temer himself), who have power over the law but are beginning to crack. There’s also an ideological group made up of Globo and the Judiciary Power, but there are internal contradictions among them. That’s why they don’t know whom to replace Temer with. Their ideal solution would be to take Lula out of the picture, make a transition government that the majority of the population accepts (like Minister Cármen Lúcia) until October 2018, and then try to win the elections.
But their division also affects the candidacies, since they can’t manage to construct a candidate like Cardoso or Collor. They’re testing public opinion, presenting João Doria (Mayor of Sao Paulo) or Luciano Hulk. But polls show they would deepen the political crisis. [end excerpt]

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) said Tuesday that the ongoing dialogue between the DPRK and the United States is the result of peace-making efforts by its top leader Kim Jong Un, rather than that of outside pressure.
The official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in a commentary that by deciding to hold a dialogue with the United States, Kim "is defending peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and the region."
"He made a strategic decision to end the inglorious history of the DPRK-U.S. relations and received U.S. Secretary of State (Mike) Pompeo, who visited the DPRK. And he took a series of crucial and bold steps for peace and stability of the peninsula and the world," said the KCNA.
The commentary said that "there are some arguments describing the improvement of the situation on the Korean Peninsula as the 'result of hard-line diplomacy' of the U.S. and the 'result of sustained pressure.'"
"It seriously chills the atmosphere of the DPRK-U.S. dialogue and is of no help to the development of the situation," it said.
"It would be absolutely beneficial to world peace and stability to have a proper understanding of the present phase of the situation on the Korean Peninsula," the commentary said.
Kim and U.S. President Donald Trump are scheduled to hold a summit meeting on June 12 in Singapore.

Trump is due to meet his DPRK's counterpart Kim Jong Un in Singapore on June 12 for high-stake talks aimed at ridding the country of its newly acquired nuclear weapons and improving ties after decades of animosity.
The summit announcement came after months of unusually cordial diplomacy between the historic foes brokered by the Republic of Korea (ROK).
But the newfound bonhomie and the meeting's potential success has been thrown into doubt in recent days with both Washington and Pyongyang raising the prospect of canceling the talks and trading threats.
The latest broadside from DPRK came Thursday with Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui lambasting a Monday media interview in which Pence warned Kim Jong Un that it would be a "great mistake" to try and play Trump.
Pence also said DPRK could end up like Libya, whose former leader Muammar Gaddafi was killed by US-backed rebels years after giving up atomic weapons, "if Kim Jong Un doesn't make a deal".
"I cannot suppress my surprise at such ignorant and stupid remarks gushing out from the mouth of the US vice president," Choe said in a statement released by the state-run KCNA news agency.
"We will neither beg the US for dialogue nor take the trouble to persuade them if they do not want to sit together with us," she said, adding she would recommend Kim cancel the talks if Washington continues to make such threats.
Similar comments comparing DPRK to Libya from Trump's hawkish National Security Advisor John Bolton caused the first threat by Pyongyang last week to cancel the Singapore meeting.
"Whether the US will meet us at a meeting room or encounter us at nuclear-to-nuclear showdown is entirely dependent upon the decision and behavior of the United States," she added. [end excerpt]

* "Trump Reconsiders Summit: World leaders hold out hope meeting can still happen" (2018-05-26, broadcast transcript, []: US President Donald Trump seems to be giving the world a case of whiplash. A day after abruptly pulling the plug on a high-stakes summit with the DPRK, he said the meeting with Kim Jong Un could go ahead after all.
The president claimed late on Friday the US is having "very productive talks" with Pyongyang. He said in a Twitter post it's even possible the summit could "remain in Singapore on the same date, June 12th and, if necessary, will be extended beyond that date". Earlier our correspondent Roee Ruttenberg briefed us on Trump's latest statement, as well as other world leaders' reactions towards the turnaround.
China says it is still holding out hope that Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un will sit down and talk, face-to-face.
WANG QISHAN CHINESE VICE PRESIDENT "Both the president of the United States and the DPRK leader have left room for maneuver for each other."
U.S. officials on Friday suggested a historic summit - scheduled for next month - might still happen, just 24 hours after President Trump announced he's out.
Wang Qishan, the Chinese vice-president, was speaking at an economic forum in Russia on Friday. Also on stage, Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. After initially saying he supported Trump's decision, Abe said world leaders should do everything they can to help ensure the talks take place. But dialogue for the sake of dialogue, he said, is pointless.
SHINZO ABE JAPANESE PRIME MINISTER "France, China and of course the United States, people across the world, we would like them to work together to push the DPRK in the right direction. In order to do that, we must work together and tackle this problem the DPRK poses."
Abe also warned world players against making long-term partnerships with Pyongyang before it meets certain conditions.
The event's host was Vladimir Putin, who on Thursday defended Kim, saying the DPRK leader "did everything he promised in advance".

* "Iran Nuclear Deal: The terms of the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement" (2018-05-22, broadcast transcript, []:
The landmark agreement was signed by Iran and six other nations in 2015. It limits Iran's nuclear program and imposes the world's strictest ever inspections regime in exchange for lifting sanctions.
According to the deal, Iran dramatically reduced the number of its centrifuges, cut 98% of its stocks of enriched uranium, and capped uranium enrichment at 3.67%.
Iran limits its uranium research and development, and allows inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency access to all its nuclear facilities.
In return, all nuclear-related sanctions were to be lifted at the beginning of 2016 and Iran's economy would be reconnected to international markets.
After the deal, Iran shipped out almost all its low-enriched uranium and has a 300 kilograms limit for 15 years. It also destroyed a heavy water plant. Despite IAEA assurances that Iran was in full compliance, Trump has now quit the deal. The UK, France, and Germany responded with a joint statement, expressing "regret and concern". They've joined China and Russia in criticizing the withdrawal and agreeing to preserve the deal. Iran's rivals Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain have all applauded Trump's decision.

These will indeed end up being the strongest sanctions in history when we are complete."
The threat of new sanctions follow Trump's decision to abandon the international agreement that suspended them in exchange for a promise to stop developing nuclear weapons. Trump claimed the deal failed to stop Iranian military activity in the Middle East.
Pompeo has drawn up a list of 12 demands that includes allowing inspectors unqualified access to nuclear sites as well as military installations that were off-limits under the 2015 deal.
He also wants Iran to end support for Shi'ite Muslim groups engaged in conflicts around the Middle East such as Hezbollah in Syria, and Houthi forces in Yemen.
MIKE POMPEO US SECRETARY OF STATE "We will track down Iranian operatives and their Hezbollah proxies operating around the world and we will crush them. Iran will never again have carte blanche to dominate the Middle East."
If Tehran meets Washington's demands, Pompeo is offering an end to sanctions, a restoration of diplomatic relations between the two and allowing Iran to access to western technology that it's been denied.
Iran's foreign minister denounced Pompeo's speech as a "diplomacy sham" while President Hassan Rouhani said the U.S. was no longer in a position could not decide for Iran.
And the international deal known as the JCPOA still has the backing of China.
